Zheng Liu

Professor

Dr. Zheng Liu joined the University of British Columbia (Okanagan campus) in 2015. His research interests include condition assessment, computer and machine vision, pattern recognition, machine learning. Dr. Liu is a senior member of IEEE and SPIE fellow.

Nezih Mrad

Adjunct Professor

Nezih Mrad received his Ph.D. degree from The Pennsylvania State University (USA) in 1995.,He is currently an Operational Research Scientist at Centre for Security Science (CSS) of Defence R&D Canada of the Department of National Defence in Canada. His research work mainly focuses on the development of advanced technologies in support of military and aerospace platforms life extension and management. Rakiba Rayhana

Postdoctoral reseach fellow

Rakiba Rayhana is currently working as a Postdoctoral Research and Teaching Fellow in the School of Engineering at the University of British Columbia Okanagan. She earned her Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the same lab, where she focused on machine learning and computer vision for pipeline defect and damage analysis.
Her current research explores AI-driven remote sensing, fiber-optic sensing for underground pipeline monitoring, and AI-assisted drone interception systems in collaboration with DRDC, Canada.

Ling Bai

Postdoctoral reseach fellow

Ling Bai is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of British Columbia. She received a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science and Technology in 2022 and completed joint training Ph.D. at McMaster University with CQUPT. Her main research interests include object detection and segmentation, point cloud processing, structure from motion, V-SLAM, crack detection, 2D/3D computer vision and applications, 3D scene reconstruction and understanding, multi-sensor fusion, artificial intelligence, autonomous vehicle, etc.

Hao Liu

Ph.D. Student

Hao Liu is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering at the University of British Columbia, under the supervision of Professor Zheng Liu. He earned a Master's degree in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering from the University of Toronto and holds a Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering from Beihang University. His research primarily focuses on Data Science in Healthcare, Information Fusion, and Machine Vision.

Yanshuo Fan

Ph.D. Student

Yanshuo received her Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from The University of British Columbia. She is currently a Ph.D. student at the University of British Columbia Okanagan Campus under the supervision of Prof. Zheng Liu. Her research interest mainly focus on Deep Learning and Machine Learning.

Jiatong Ling

I am a Ph.D. student in Electrical Engineering at the University of British Columbia Okanagan, supervised by Prof. Zheng Liu. I got my Bachelor's degree and master's degree from China University of Petroleum - Beijing. My research interests include data analysis and data fusion.

Yue Cao

I received my Bachelor's degree at the University of British Columbia Okanagan, and continue my study as a Ph.D. student at UBCO, supervised by Prof. Zheng Liu. My research interests include computer vision, data fusion, and deep learning.

Yu Hu

Ph.D. Student

Yu Hu is a PhD student in Electrical Engineering at the University of British Columbia under the supervision of Zheng Liu. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical and Electronic Engineering at NWAFU and his Master’s degree in Mechanical Science & Engineering at HUST, where he focused on Ultrasonic and Electromagnetic NDT. His research explores innovative approaches in Computer Vision, Vision Language Model, and Deep Learning.

Yonghui Lv

Ph.D. Student

I am a Ph.D. student at the University of British Columbia, where I also earned my master's degree in 2018. My research focuses on machine learning and computer vision, with a particular emphasis on Explainable AI (XAI) for Machine Vision in Industrial Inspection.

Sergii Baidachnyi

Ph.D. Student

Sergii is a Ph.D. student at the University of British Columbia, supervised by Prof. Zheng Liu. His primary interests include UAVs and computer vision. He earned a master’s degree with honours in Applied Mathematics from Dnipro National University and another master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Colorado Boulder. Sergii is a software engineer with over 20 years of experience in leading software engineering companies and has authored eight books in this field.

Lixin TU is a Ph.D. student at the Intelligent Sensing, Diagnostics, and Prognostics Research Lab, School of Engineering, UBCO. His current research interests include deep learning applications in water pipe leak detection.

His research focuses on human activity recognition and intelligent sensing systems, with applications in elderly fall detection and prevention.

Shuo-Yen (Ian) Tu is a master’s student in Electrical Engineering. He received his B.Sc. degree from National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan. His research interests include Computer Vision and Multimodal Image Fusion using Machine Learning. He aims to apply his research to practical applications in the industry.

Yihe Wang is a Master’s student in Electrical Engineering at UBCO, supervised by Dr. Zehng Liu. He completed his bachelor’s degree in Computer Science at UBCO. After graduating, he worked for two years in mini-program development and as a robotics competition coach. His current research interests focus on machine learning and reinforcement learning.

Ke Feng

Postdoctoral reseach fellow

Ke Feng is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of British Columbia. He received a Ph.D. degree in mechanical engineering from the University of New South Wales, Australia, in 2021. He was a Postdoctoral Research Associate with the University of Technology Sydney in 2021. His main research interests include digital-twin-based RUL prediction, vibration analysis, structural health monitoring, dynamics, tribology, signal processing, and machine learning.

Junchi Bin received the B.Sc. in eletrical engineering from dual-degree program of Northern Arizona University, AZ, USA and Chang'An University, Shaaxi, China in 2016 and the M.A.Sc. in electrical engineering from the University of British Columbia, Kelowna, Canada, 2019. Junchi Bin is currently a Ph.D. student in electrical engineering at The University of British Columbia, Kelowna, Canada, where he works under Prof. Dr. Zheng Liu. Rui Wang

Ying Huang

Visiting Associate Professor

Huang Ying, associate professor, IEEE member, CCF senior member, CCF YOCSEF Chongqing AC member, senior member of Chongqing Institute of Electronics. In 2002 and 2012, he received a master's degree and a doctorate degree from Wuhan University and the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China respectively. From August 2017 to August 2018, he was a visiting scholar at the University of British Columbia. The main research direction is image fusion and image quality assessment, etc., presided over 2 provincial and ministerial projects, mainly researched 4 national self-science funds, published more than 20 SCI and EI journal conference papers, and won the 5th China Cloud Computing Academic Conference Excellent 1 paper, 1 monograph published by Electronic Industry Press.

Mingliang Gao

Mingliang received his Ph.D.in communication and information systems from Sichuan University, Chengdu, China, in 2013. Currently, he is an associate professor in Shandong Univeristy of Technology, Shandong, China. He studied in UBCO from 2018.04 to 2019.04 as a visiting scholar cooperated with Prof. Zheng Liu. My research interests focus on Advanced geophysical instrumentation, and I have built a variety of magnetometers for marine and aerial surveys; Also, I am exploring the application of machine learning and intelligent optimization algorithms to improve the detection ability of magnetometers for weak magnetic targets.

Weiqi Zhang received her Ph.D. degree from Okayama University, Okayama, Japan, in 2023. She is currently a Post-Doctoral Researcher and a Lecturer with the Department of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Henan University of Science and Technology, and a visiting scholar with the School of Engineering, The University of British Columbia, Kelowna, BC, Canada.
